Gayle has been a freelance illustrator her whole adult life. After graduating from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, she began freelancing and has never stopped! She moved to Western Massachusetts from San Francisco with her soon-to-be husband Artist Peter Kitchell. Her friends took bets on how long she’d last. She is still there over 30 years later…

Gayle has illustrated for various markets worldwide for over 35 years. She was lucky enough to have her first New Yorker magazine cover ‘June Brides’ celebrating gay marriage in 2012 and have had a total of five covers since then. And yes, I count EVERY SINGLE one as a miracle!

Her work tends to be very feminine, and she loves exploring beauty in all forms. Traveling (especially to tropical climates) is her passion and and she paints her experiences, sometimes turning them into illustrated stories. It’s exciting to her when her work connects with people in a heartfelt, meaningful way.
